LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Community Futures Grenville serves communities located on the traditional territory of the Kanien:keha’ka (Mohawk) people of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy; and unceded territory of the Algonquin (Anishinaabeg) people. We also recognize the historical relationship of other member nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, as well as other nations, to this land. The place where we live and work is a part of the one dish, one spoon treaty, a pre-contact diplomatic agreement between the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabeg, and Mississauga peoples, later updated to include newcomers in a spirit of friendship and peace. This treaty reflects an agreement to share responsibility for the land. We are grateful for the diplomacy, stewardship, and knowledge of First Peoples, which continue to benefit all of us. We recognize and strive to better understand the impacts of colonialism in Canada. We actively seek ways to use our role in the community to contribute to the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and to cultivate a strong relationship with all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people in our community and beyond.
